Treatment Objectives:
Construction Method: The surface was scarified to a depth of 6" using a grader. The top 3" layer was windrowed to the sides and the CBR PLUS was then applied with a water tanker in a mixture of 250 : 1 parts water to CBR PLUS to bring the moisture content of the soil to about 11%. The layer was mixed thoroughly by means of the grader and a large number of boulders pushed off to the side of the road. The lower layer was then placed and compacted using a vibratory smooth drum roller, which due to a high soil moisture content, caused the fines in the soil to "float" to the surface and bind in the loose larger grained gravel. Result : The resultant road finished in a smooth surface with good trafficability even in wet weather. Dust has been reduced by about 85%. After 3 months the in situ DPC CBR values have increased from 16 in untreated soils to 185 and 140 (-10 fold increase) in the treated layers. A significant increase was also noted in the lower layers of the treated section. Maintenance has been reduced significantly.
