Road Profile:

This road required reasonably high maintenance. In addition the road was very low-lying passing through a dip with lots of water next to the road, coming almost to road level. This resulted in the road standing under water for periods as there was no way to drain the local area.

Objective:

To stabilize the base and reduce maintenance.

The existing road was scarified as normal and after applying the CBR PLUS with the water tanker, the layer thoroughly blade mixed. Once the material had been placed, shaped and compacted and thus theoretically complete, the water tanker was again brought on and the surface completely soaked, to the extent that the water was actually running off. Because the material was well compacted and coarse grained, it was able to carry the roller without rutting or even sticking to the roller drum.

A further 4 passes were then made with the packer drum vibrating at a high frequency resulting in a "high float".

The road was watered once a day for 5 days thereafter and then allowed to dry out. This resulted in a very tightly packed surface. After a while these roads were extremely hard and no dust was visible behind vehicles.
