Construction: The concept of this project was to fully incorporate the clay cap into the base and thoroughly mix the two types of soil, and so stabilize the whole layer with CBR PLUS Classic. Approximately 225 mm of 20 mm crushed aggregate was incorporated with the 150 mm clay cap, mixed thoroughly, and stabilized with CBR PLUS Classic. The Northern half of the road was ripped from the verge on one side to the middle, and scarified using the graders and the lumps were broken down with the disc. 110 liters CBR PLUS Classic was mixed with ~ 55,000 liters of water in the tanker and applied to the scarified section on the scarified side of the 1610 m length of road. Thereafter the scarified soil was mixed using the disc and graders, and then shaped with the graders and compacted with the roller. The same process was repeated the next day to the other side of the road. After scarifying the south half of the road and adding another 110 liters CBR PLUS Classic to the scarified section, the layer was mixed, placed and then compacted. The final amount of 30 liters CBR PLUS was added to 28,000 liters of water, which was applied during the final blading and rolling of the entire project. The treated road section was allowed to cure and left open for a full year. It carried truck traffic well during this period, particularly during the spring transition period, requiring only minimal grading to reshape some minor wear before sealing during the summer. The road was sealed with a Refined Crude Oil during the summer of 2001 and is performing very well so far.
